Random's all I got

I feel so scattered today that I can't even come up with a decent intro to a post about how scattered I feel. I like to set up each blog post just so, and I think I usually do a pretty good job of writing an intro for my posts, but today I just don't have it in me. All I keep coming up with are random tidbits that "could be fun to talk about", so I'm giving up on any pretense of a storyline or whatever and just jumping right in. Let's embrace the random, shall we?

  1. I didn't get to take pictures of me wearing Chadwick this week. First there was the bad camera day, then we fell victim to the dreaded "Lost Memory Card" syndrome. I wore it on Wednesday though, and it's pretty fabulous. Perfect accessory for my brown leather jacket. Yum.

  2. I'm fighting a pretty devastating urge to drastically enhance the stash. Specifically, I want to buy enough Tanis to make Calligraphy, and enough Quince & Co Tern to make Akoya.

  3. I even know which colourways I want for each sweater. That's a bad sign.

  4. I'm trying to quell the urge to buy yarn by buying fabric instead. I realize that's still technically stash enhancement, but since my fabric stash is still comparatively wee, I'm choosing to congratulate myself for my maturity and personal growth and leaving it at that.

  5. Sewing feels like a daytime activity to me, whereas knitting is totally an evening thing. Weird, eh?

  6. I've amped up my training for the half-marathon at the end of the month. I'm up to 60 consecutive minutes at this point.

  7. I'd be all "Booyah!" about that, except that the half-marathon will likely take me 120 minutes to run. That makes me want to cry a little bit.

  8. Asking yourself "What the f**k was I f***ing thinking, f***ing signing up for a f***ing half-f***ing-marathon, anyway????" isn't actually a great motivator when you're trying to get through a 60-minute run.

  9. It's Maxime's birthday tomorrow. Little dude is going to be FOUR. How did that happen?

  10. I've got the gifts wrapped, I'm baking the cake tonight, I think that's everything, right?

  11. Right?

  12. In keeping with the New Rule, after completing Chadwick I immediately cast on a pair of socks (Gentleman's Sock in Railway Stitch, from Knitting Vintage Socks). At first I thought this might be one of those patterns that just flies off the needles, but progress has been super slow lately, so maybe not.

  13. It's just dawned on me that progress has been slow because I've been running/wrapping/stressing instead of knitting this week. Maybe those über-fast projects are über-fast because we actually knit on them??

Happy Knitting, Everyone!

I got diddly

Wow. I was going for a "Random Friday" post today (about that? when I first started blogging I didn't realize that's it's really Random Wednesday, and now every time I post something under that label, I wonder if the blogosphere thinks I'm a clueless dumbass), but I've been sitting here for a few minutes (OK five. Maybe. My threshhold is extremely low today), and I can't come up with a single funny/insightful/quirky thing to say. Nothing. Zip.

It's been a rough week, and earlier today I was enabling myself thinking that maybe I needed a little pick me up. Maybe a little "insert random new (because we live in a society that encourages consumerism and that's what we do) thing here" would be in order. New yarn? (I'm craving a black - but not TOO black - cardigan. That should give you a little heads up on my mood). New outfit? Shoes? Manicure? Book? Fabric? A friend of mine sent me a coupon to get a complete body exfoliation and full-body seaweed wrap at a local spa for 49$ (instead of 176$), and all I could think was "Huh, that looks nice". And yeah, I suppose any (or all - hah!) those things would be nice, but I'm just not feeling it. So here I sit, trying to put out a blog post. *Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

Where the heck is my enthusiasm, anyway?

You know what? I'm betting it decided it had had just about enough of the soul-suck that is February in Canada and said "Dude? Screw this s**t. I'm buggin' outta here pronto. See you in March, suckah!!!"

Lucky bastard.

Right

Wow, I just SUCK at this blogging thing lately, don’t I? A whole whopping single post a week, SWEET! No wonder stats are down, heh.

I’ve been doing quite a bit of knitting, though. Not as much as I’d like (but really, do we EVER get to knit as much as we’d like?), but still… I’ve gone and caught startitis, and I’ve got quite a few small(ish) projects on the go at the moment. Tomorrow we’ll have a proper wip show and tell, right? With pictures. Cross my heart and hope to… well…. I’ll do my darndest to get a proper post out.

For now I just wanted to get SOMETHING out there, to let you know I’m still here and haven’t decided to give up blogging. So let’s do a Random Friday post:

  1. First on my list of things I will never do again: Go on Etsy and type “cashmere”.
  2. Second on that list of things: Brag about my knitting skillz, particularly colourwork. If you ever hear me say “sure, that could be charted up easily”, feel free to knock me out.
  3. I’ve misplaced (I still can’t bring myself to say “lost”) my Harmony DPN set. Yeah… I KNOW.
  4. I’m not dealing with the time change well. When I got out of the metro on Monday and it was THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT outside, I almost cried. Really.
  5. Phil’s hand is officially on the mend. The second surgery appears to have been successful, and although he’s got a long haul of physiotherapy ahead of him, it’s all moving forward from him.
  6. I’ve FINALLY ordered some KnitPicks Palette yarn. Stay tuned for some awesome mitten knitting.
  7. Kate-the-Enabler has embarked on her very own running adventure. I was privileged to accompany her on her very first outing (IN THE RAIN!!!) last Saturday, and she did great. I’m so proud of her I could just about burst.
  8. I’m in love with my stash. I realize this might not be earth-shattering news, but still, it bares repeating once in a while. I love my stash. It’s procured me so much joy, and I know it’s just going to get better and better.
  9. I’m beginning to get nervous about Christmas. Especially since I’m giving knitted gifts away NOW. I should be SAVING the knitwear.
  10. I think I need to embark on a coordination mission. When putting on the knitted accessories today, I noticed that nothing matches, and I look like some crazy (albeit cozy) bag lady. Hat, scarf, mittens. Nothing matches. Gotta get on that…

Happy Knitting Everyone!

Randon Friday

Phil left for the Pinball Wizards convention this morning. The kids are finally in bed, and I'm completely exhausted. I had coffee with an old friend last night, and while it was wonderful to see her again, it was most definitely NOT a good idea to have a Grande Latte at past 8 in the evening. I didn't fall asleep until past midnight, and now I'm just... what was I saying?

No exciting knitting content, I'm afraid. The sock is longer, Colette is longer, blah-di-blah-blah... I'm feeling a mad urge to crochet a Babette blanket (thank GOD the KnitPicks Palette samplers appear to be unavailable right now!), and to knit lace, preferable with HandMaiden SeaSilk... But I'm being good. Knit knit knit.

In lieu of fascinating blog fodder, let's have a Random Friday post, shall we? 5 off the top, here we go (it was originally 10, but I stalled out after number 6):

  1. I can't keep living a lie, so I'm just going to come out and say it: I don't like Boréal Blanche beer. I like the Rousse and the Blonde, but not the Blanche. It tastes like medicine.
  2. Émilie named her hampster Albert. The poor thing has been dropped, squeezed, kissed and loved, and has seen his life flash before his eyes on countless occasions this past week. If this is karma at work, I gotta say: Payback is a beotch.
  3. In an attempt to cut my spending, I'm considering dyeing my hair myself this weekend. From dye bought at the pharmacy. Out of a box. By Myself. This may not be a big deal to most, but since I've always had a colorist do it at the salon, this is HUGE.
  4. I am 8 episodes behind on Bones. This can't be allowed to continue.
  5. I've been re-reading favourite books lately. I read Twilight and New Moon again, but as I'm waiting on someone (*cough* Kate *cough*) to finish Eclipse, I started another old favourite, As it is in Heaven, by Niall Williams. Every sentence deserves to be savoured, like candy.
OK, I've got a date with David Boreanaz, people, so I'm going to call it a night. I'll end this post with a random picture taken from Flickr. I typed in the word "Friday", and this was my favourite of the results on the first page.
